In many occasions we have made remarks that building families and family life is high priority at Awakening. This is not only hypothetical, but a real concern that finds many practical expressions. One of the ways we keep the fire of the family life burning is the family meetings we organize at our church. There are many formal meetings which we organize (like seminars for example) but also nonformal meetings in which families from Awakening get together for time of fellowship and fun.
The last meeting which brought all the families of our church together was a special family dinner. Since Bulgaria is an ex-communist country it still values some of the days which were important in the days of Communism. One of the important days which are still celebrated in the East, and particularly in Bulgaria is the 8th of March. This day was dedicated to all women. In a way it is an analogy of the American mother’s day. In this day women are treated with extraordinary respect and get recognition for their beauty and heavy work. Men bring flowers to their wives, mothers, colleagues and close friends. The day always means romantic dinners or noisy parties. The families of our congregation always come together for a dinner on that day.
We always rent a small size restaurant just for us. We order a special meal and let all men invite their wives to dinner.
Being together is more important to us than any activity itself. Church is all about fellowship. No matter in what context it takes place we are church when we are together.
