Just a week before celebrating Easter (the Bulgarian Church celebrates Easter on the 01.May) the community of Awakening decided to make a benevolence action for food and blanket distribution in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Stara Zagora .
Our faith in the risen Savior obligates us to share our goods with those who are less fortunate especially in our preparation for the Easter celebration. Need oriented evangelism has become our predominant tool of sharing the Gospel with the people in our community.

We wanted once again to reach people from the community by showing love through care for them.
More than 150 000 people are living in our city. Almost 40 000 of them are gypsy and Turkish minorities living in the extremely overcrowded city ghettos. Most of them are jobless because of lack of education. They usually have many children and are living in very poor conditions. Their houses have no running water. Their health condition is devastating. Malnutrition and chronicle deceases are often the case even at very early age.
We picked up one of the poorest areas in the ghetto and organized an action in which we were to distribute food bags which we have prepared in advance. We bought packages of rice, sugar, flour, sausages, margarine, candy and other goods that those people can not afford. Along with the food bags, every adult got a warm blanket. The food and the covers we distributed were to symbolize God's care and provision for all people.

The action was done with the cooperation of a pastor who serves in the nearest church. He knew the people from the community and could confirm their genuine need. They have never received humanitarian help before. We distributed the aid and had the chance to talk and pray with many of those people. All of them were referred to the local church.
Some of the most involved people in this action were our youth. It was great to see them so passionate about ministering to the needy people and poor out their love.

We want to thank all the member of our congregation who gave their time and recourses to make this action possible. A special "Thank You" goes to the Church of God Westerstede in Germany , which donated significant amount of money towards this benevolence action. Our brothers and sisters in Germany have raised the donated money by selling tea and freshly made waffles at the town square in their city.y the church truly did effect her. It proved, to this very devout Christian lady, that you could play and celebrate together as part of the Body of Christ.
So, dust off those old costumes, don’t throw away that old Halloween mask from 1982, keep your old worn out clothes from the 1970s, and save some of your wife’s old make-up. The 2nd Vuzrazhdane Church Carnival is just around the corner!
