The most significant public event for 2004, which Awakening
organized and participated in, was a big Gospel concert.
The idea of the concert was born in the worship team of Awakening
more than a year ago. Despite the fact that our praise band
is less than two years old, some of its leaders are highly
competent professional musicians. From the very start of
our ministry their dream was to reach out to the community
of our town with music that bears Christian message. The
young generation of Bulgaria is very much influenced by the
secular music. In many ways the music they listen becomes
their lifestyle, it shapes their moral, behavior and worldview.
That is why we have realized that music can be a powerful
evangelization tool for reaching the young generation, and
decided to speak our faith in songs.
This idea was finally realized at the end of November. With
the help and the cooperation of the municipality of Stara
Zagora our church sponsored a concert
which took place in the largest public hall down town Stara Zagora.
The concert did not only aim to express our praise and
adoration to God but at the same time was a protest against
the use of drugs among the youth. The use
of drugs has become one of the predominant problems that the young generation
of post-communist Bulgaria experiences. That is why we decided to address the
issue and promote another alternative for dealing with life’s problems – faith,
hope and love in the Savior.
Awakening band invited couple of well known musicians to participate in the
concert and make it an unforgettable spectacle for all that would come. More
than 500
people, both believers and non-believes, thoroughly enjoyed every song that
was sung. The light and the sound equipment also added to the experience. It
was
a great
show! But we know, a Christian concert cannot be just a show. Despite the musical
precision and professionalism which came across every song, the spirit of praise
and adoration was felt. The hearts and minds of all singers and musicians that
led the concert were turned out to God. That was the focus, the center of attention.
We believe that this event was pleasing Him and bringing glory to His name.
Our prayer is that this concert would become an annual tradition and that through
it we would influence the community of our town and bring many to the knowledge
of Christ.
