So, what do all of these things have in common, you ask? Well, just the following.
On the evening of Sept. 23, a Mom’s of Young Children group met at the COG Bible College. Believe it or not, but not only did these young Moms play with kids’ toys such as horned animals, bears, and fish, but they learned a lot about the faith of Moses’ mother.
This isn’t to mention feasting on delicious German Honey Butter Cake thanks to the generosity of Dajana and Angelika.
Some young Australian moms even came all the way from Kazanluk to attend. They must have heard about Dajana’s and Angelika’s famous treats even there.
Angelika, a special guest from near Bremen, Germany shared with these 16 women how Moses’ mom offered him up at an early age to the Father. She explained how she trusted the Lord to do what was best for Moses in faith.
Dedication of children to the Lord was the theme for the evening. Angelika expanded on this subject as she explained what is done in her home church near Bremen. Much as in other evangelical churches in other parts of the world, the parents come up to the front of the church. Then they give their child to the pastor, which is symbolic of giving your child to the Father on an altar. Next, the pastor prays for the child.
This is no easy thing to do. Especially as some “children” want to crawl off of that “altar” later in life. Yep, this is the trouble with living sacrifices! It is all the more reason to always pray for our children.
So, why were adult women playing with children’s toys? Well, Margie, Daniela and Angelika had each mom select a toy. Then, after dividing into groups, each group had to select one mom to explain why their personality is like the toy they selected.
Tatiana chose a horned animal. She explained that she is like this animal because she is stubborn. Yet, her stubbornness has been used in a positive way to help her deal with very difficult circumstances. So, Tatiana’s stubbornness helps her to persevere.
Yet another mom chose a fish. Why? The answer was that she is quiet like a fish and it is hard for her to share her opinions. But, her personality is colorful, sparkly and shiny just like our friends with fins.
Dajana shared with the group how she ministers to young moms in her home church in Germany. She also noted that there is an urgent need for moms to meet here in Stara Zagora too. By doing this, they can both learn from and encourage each other. She emphasized that these meetings are VERY worthwhile and necessary. Not to mention fun!
This dynamic new group is open to all young moms in the Stara Zagora region whether churched or not.
One of the most touching moments in the Mom’s get together was this. An unchurched gal named Valya was invited and came. The women then broke up into groups to pray at the end of the meeting. Valya exclaimed to the gals, “This was the first time I have ever prayed!”
She loved being loved and accepted by this wonderful group of Moms. A goal of the leaders, Daniela Lucheva and Margie Brown, is to make this group an outreach for young unchurched women from the Stara Zagora region.
Obviously, they have made a great start of this ministry already.
